These portraits are an exploration of the pre-pubescent/adolescent girl identity crisis, longing to be more of a woman and less of a girl.I was witnessing the struggle of my own thirteen-year old daughter at this time in her life. The struggle during this time for these girls is the desire to mature quickly. Given the highly sexualized cultural social environment in which these young girls are immersed, sexuality is inappropriately imposed on them through the internet, media, marketing of products directed at them that encourages them to act in adult, sexual ways.I empathize with the current human condition, which is an inherent problem with our culture. The early sexualization and objectification of young girls and women has gotten so out of control.
